Interprofessional Education
A cornerstone of geriatrics is the attention to medical, psychological, functional, and social well-being, which often requires a team of health professionals. The Division of Geriatrics offers interactive learning opportunities for health professions students to learn with, from, and about each other in order to provide effective team care for older adults.
Our interprofessional education activities include:
- The Interprofessional Aging and Palliative Care Student Interest Group: open to all health professions students
- The Interprofessional Standardized Patient Exercise for dentistry, medical, nursing, pharmacy, and physical therapy students
- UCSF Center for Geriatric Care has an interprofessional learning community that includes geriatrics fellows, pharmacy residents and students, social work interns, and law students from UC Hastings College of the Law. Members of this interprofessional learning community learn to collaborate and provide longitudinal and person-centered care to a panel of community dwelling older adults. Collaboration with laws students from UC Hastings College of the Law is a part of Medical-Legal Partnership for Seniors which provides health-related legal aide to older adults.
