Brie Williams, MD, MS and Cyrus Ahalt, MPP, in partnership with Professor Craig Haney of UC Santa Cruz, hosted The Santa Cruz Academic Summit on Solitary Confinement & Health. The meeting was attended by international experts from various professions including healthcare, law, correctional administration and international human rights and by individuals who have experienced long-term solitary confinement, to discuss the current state of research on the health effects of long-term solitary confinement and next steps that can be taken to limit its use in prisons and jails.
